"Most people get one shot at retiring well. The families we serve decided that was too important to improvise."

What we do

Comprehensive planning, delivered by one accountable team.

Your financial life doesn't come in separate pieces — your advice shouldn't either. Every Harborview relationship covers the full picture.

i.

Retirement income planning

A year-by-year income map from your final paycheck through the rest of the plan.

ii.

Investment management

Disciplined, low-cost portfolios aligned to your plan — not to a sales target.

iii.

Tax strategy

Roth conversions, withdrawal sequencing, and charitable giving, coordinated with your CPA.

iv.

Social Security & Medicare

Claiming decisions optimized as a household, with the healthcare bridge planned.

v.

Estate & legacy

Wills, trusts, beneficiaries, and titling reviewed so your wishes hold in the real world.

vi.

Risk & insurance review

Honest assessments of what you need — and what you're paying for that you don't.

Our approach

A disciplined process, refined over twenty years.

1

Discover

Two unhurried meetings to understand your full picture — every account, every goal, and the concerns you've been carrying quietly.

Weeks 1–2
2

Design

Your written plan: income strategy, investment policy, tax roadmap, and the decisions ahead — in plain English, with the trade-offs made clear.

Weeks 3–5
3

Steward

We implement together and meet twice a year — adjusting as markets, tax law, and life evolve, so the plan is always current.

Ongoing
Your advisor

Advice from someone who's seen the whole journey.

Susan Caldwell, CFP® founded Harborview in 2004 with a simple conviction: families navigating retirement deserve the same caliber of counsel that institutions take for granted — without the conflicts of interest.

Twenty years later, the firm remains deliberately small. The advisor who builds your plan is the advisor who answers your call, through every market and every season of life.

Common questions

Asked at nearly every first meeting.

How are you compensated?

A transparent advisory fee, disclosed in writing before we begin. We accept no commissions, referral fees, or product compensation of any kind — which means our only incentive is advice that works for you.

Do we need to move our accounts immediately?

No. Many relationships begin with planning before any assets move. When they do, accounts are custodied in your name at an independent custodian — we never take possession of your money.

We're a few years from retiring. Is it too soon?

The five years before retirement carry the most consequential decisions in the entire plan — Roth conversions, asset positioning, and income design all happen here. Earlier is genuinely better.

What happens at the first conversation?

Thirty minutes, no preparation required. You tell us where you are; we tell you honestly whether and how we can help. If we're not the right firm, we'll point you toward someone who is.

The next step

A conversation, not a commitment.

Thirty minutes by phone or in our Grand Rapids office. Bring your questions — we'll bring twenty years of having heard them.
